Why we had to take our 4 year old to the ER last week.

Last week we had a very scary situation happen with my 4 year old son, Josiah. It scared us half to death and we ended up having to take him into the ER.

So here’s the story of what happened….

Every December 4th and every August 4th, I go to Moscow Idaho which is where my sister lives and December 4th is the actual day that my nephew Amir passed away so it's a very difficult day for my sister to go through each year and I like to be there with her to support her and I also like to go back to Moscow every December 4th just to pay my respects to him.

I mean I miss him your Dearly!!

Amir McKenzie

He was you know we were very very close-knit family and we did you know all holidays together and so I miss him a lot and and then the reason why I go back ever to Moscow Idaho every August 4th is because that is when it would have been Amir’s birthday.

So just a few days ago on Wednesday it will almost be a week ago now….. it would have been Amirs’s 21st birthday and so that's why we drove over to Moscow Idaho Tuesday night.

Now in the past I think it was last year if it wasn't last summer in August, then it would have been 2 years ago but either way we normally used to stay with my sister that's just what we did and either last August or 2 years ago August I went there to stay with my sister and Josiah was having major difficulties breathing!

Like severely!!

So I took him to urgent care in Moscow Idaho

and they said that he was breathing too bad like it was too severe and they wouldn't even treat him so they said I had to take him to the emergency room so I took him to the emergency room they know he was there for several hours he got treated at he got to and then after that experience I decided that I would never again stay with my sister because she has a cat so it's just not worth it because Josiah has such extreme allergic reactions

and so so basically ever since then every time I go over there I just booked a hotel I haven't always booked the same place but the place that I booked this last week you know when I went to go over there I just booked on Expedia and I didn't spend a lot of time I was in a hurry I just thought it doesn't matter you know we're not even going to be at the hotel that often and so I just went on Expedia found a place and booked it and didn't think much of it and I wasn't looking for a pool I wasn't looking to see if they serve breakfast.

I didn't look at any of that stuff and so it wasn’t until we arrived Tuesday night when I went to check in. I saw a little sign that they said there's like a $15 pet fee if you have a pet that is the first time I realized “Crap this hotel you know allows animals!”

but I thought “I am sure it'll be fine.”

I really didn't think too much of it but I did see the sign saying they charge $15 extra for pets.So anyways…. we checked into our room I was SOO exhausted because it took us all in all 10 hours to get from our house to Moscow Idaho.

It's normally a 6-hour drive but with all the stops we had to make to charge up our car because we decided to take our Tesla because then it's just a more comfortable car and we don't even have to pay for gas we just charge along the way…..

well that turned out to be a bloody Nightmare!!

I will never take the Tesla on a long road trip again because it just takes up WAY too much time to charge the Tesla every couple of hours along the way.

Now, don’t get me wrong!! I absolutely LOVE our Tesla!! ❤️❤️❤️

It's a Wonderful car but not for doing what would normally be a 6 hour drive so like I said it turned into a 10 hour commute and by the time we got to the hotel Tuesday night I was beyond exhausted

After about an hour to an hour and a half of us getting into the hotel, I noticed that Josiah started wheezing and I thought “oh this is not good”

but then I thought well we're not going to be in the hotel room you do the whole time and so we'll just be going there to sleep and you know kind of in-between so I thought it would be okay

Big Mistake!!!

Lesson learned!!

So anyway and we were only staying there for two nights….so this is why I didn't think it was that big a big deal.

So Tuesday night we got in late he did okay but started wheezing by Wednesday night he didn't even sleep 1 hour.

He was wheezing really really bad and I I couldn't get him to be comforted I couldn't get him to go back to sleep.

I was exhausted!

He was exhausted!

And he couldn't breathe very well at all.

It was really stressful!

Meanwhile, Scott was up in Spokane, Washington visiting his my step dad because he's been having complications and that's another story but anyways because he had heart surgery a couple weeks ago.

Anyways, so we were there with my sister all day Wednesday.

We went to the grave site to have special time with Amir…. you know paying our respects and sharing memories and things like that but then so it was Wednesday night that's the night that Josiah wasn't sleeping and was was really scary and super stressful.

So the next morning on Thursday, once I got my car charged enough we drove up to Spokane Washington and that's where I took we took Josiah into the Sacred Heart children's hospital where he got treated.

Now prior to going to the hospital we did try giving him an inhaler but I accidentally left the tube thing you know normally the inhaler goes into a long tube and there is a little mask thing that goes over his face and I don't know what I was thinking but I accidentally forgot it here at the house.

So my sister had an extra inhaler anyway when I was trying to give Josiah on Wednesday night when he was struggling to breathe I was trying to give Josiah that inhaler it just wasn't working.

He wasn't getting it. I really needed that tube so I felt really bad about forgetting the inhaler and I don't think I'll ever forget inhaler again anyways when we made it to Spokane we were able to get a long tube for the inhaler to attach to and we were giving him some some inhaler Puffs and he kind of was doing a little better but then it would get bad really bad again and then we would give him some more puffs from the inhaler….

but we didn't want to overdo it so we were trying to wait like for 2 hours in between giving him the inhaler…..

But long story short he just wasn't responding well enough and that's why we had to go to the ER.

So we took him into the ER and it's a good thing we did because he was really not a good place and so thank the Lord the doctors and nurses at the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Spokane Washington did a fabulous job taking care of him.

So now we are back home he's breathing good again and it feels so good to have have him breathing good on his own and you know we did give him a nebulizer treatment a couple of times once we got home, but now is doing really good breathing well on his own.

So that's the whole story…..

Well that's not the Whole story….. but that's like the most important parts as to what led up to us having to take Josiah to the ER up in Spokane last week.

Now, I am Super curious for any of you reading this blog post…..if you can please let me know what you would do if you needed to travel and you had to stay at a hotel or something considering by law that hotels Have to accommodate service animals, because you know certain people need to have a service animal.

My nephew Amir had a service animal he had a dog as his service animal and I know the service animals are really really helpful you know they help so many people who have a special need or a disability and I'm ALL FOR service animals……

but my question is what suggestions do you have if you happen to have a child like Josiah…. who's super allergic to animals and you need to travel?

I'm really curious about where we can stay moving forward because I don't know if I can even find a hotel that doesn't allow service animals in because all somebody has to say is I have a service animal and I think the hotel has to allow the service animal in….

so if you guys have any suggestions please let me know. I would Really, Really appreciate it a lot!!

I'm super super curious because I do still plan on traveling.

I'm just trying to figure out moving forward how we can make this work where I don't have to worry about Josiah even if I bring his inhaler and bring the attachment that goes with his inhaler.

I don't want to have to worry about Josiah having another allergic reaction so if you have any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it if you would let me know.

As always, I would absolutely love to hear from you.
